Industrial lubricants should be handled with utmost care and attention as mishandling them would lead to costly waste disposal, deterioration and contamination. Also, working with industrial lubricants can be hazardous. Hence, they need to be handled skillfully and safely.  While working with them, it is necessary to identify the hazards and take necessary steps to prevent them.

Containers with lubricants such as oil and grease weighing more than 200 kg can be dangerous. If dropped or spilled accidentally, it can create Fire havoc. Industrial lubricant manufacturers advise that two persons should overturn the containers in order to prevent such accidents.

In the industrial workplace, injuries caused by grease guns or high pressure injections are quite common. These can occur due to accidental spillage of oil or grease under pressure and can affect the skin. In case a person is injured from this damage, he or she should be given immediate medical attention as it can cause the soft tissue damage.

According to Industrial Lubricant Manufacturers, handling any types of specialty lubricants can pose a great danger and risk. Most accidents occur when the worker wipes the nozzle  tip with the finger and if it slips off while being fitted into its place. Any leakage in grease lines can also cause injection to the body.

Any spillage of specialty lubricants on the floor or ladder must be immediately cleaned off as it is the major source of a fire hazard. It is advised that leaky devices be replaced immediately and drip pails be placed in several areas to avoid hazards.

There are some machinery types that require complete shutting down before lubrication, which when not done can pose threat to the persons working with them. Lubricants on working equipment should never be applied unless there is a central lubrication system along with oil caps piped out.

After lubrication is done, ensure to properly replace the guards as well as report if there are any damaged or missing ones. Only when the machines are shut and locked properly, one should get the chain drives and couplings removed.

Excessive usage or contact with petroleum products such as solvents, rust preventive liquids and other fluids may result in skin allergies or irritation. Rubber gloves should be worn before working with these chemicals. Washing hands with warm water and mild soap after usage is recommended.

Handling solvents should be done with extreme care and detail as they can emit vapour and cause fire when mixed with air. Solvents should be placed in a well-ventilated and dry area and should be closed when not in use.
